'It's like having multiple tabs open in your head’ This is how I described the mental load yesterday on my first ever linkedin live with the brilliant Elliott Rae We discussed many things, including: * How to share the mental - as well as physical - load with your partner * The emotional load that can come with being a parent (guilt, anxiety, worry) * The letting go of ‘control’ and ‘perfectionism’ * Investing in ‘me time’ and how that makes us better parents – and humans – which means it isn’t selfish at all! https://lnkd.in/eeKwx-it Event recording here.   We did run out of time – which is testament to a great conversation! I have therefore put together some top tips on reducing the mental load below - these are applicable whether or not you are a parent.   Do let me know if there is anything else you would add...🤯 Remember the challenge with new habits is that they require intention and repetition for them to stick - the techniques themselves are simple but effective! #mentalload #wellbeing #workingparents

Shivani Uberoi since having a capsule wardrobe with only a few pieces, I feel so much lighter as I don't need to think at all what I'm gonna wear, how it will fit together etc. Can only highly recommend one!

I love these, reducing choice is a great one. I'd also add letting go of control. My inner control freak used to tell me that there was only one way to do things, MY way, but I'm learning to let others step up. And guess what, when you do step back, it allows others to step up.

As someone who is solo parenting, I make sure I have some downtime once my little dude is in bed. I put crappy TV on and I don't look at social media. I also mind map a lot, it helps me to figure out my thoughts.

“Multiple tabs open” certainly resonates with me. I know that one of the best ways for me to give my brain a break is to get my body moving, preferably to music. On the days I remember to do this, I feel immeasurably better…I just wish I remembered more frequently than I do!

Great tips here Shivani! To add to 'digital detox' I would suggest minimising distractions, especially from notifications to help with focus and mental clarity.
